Prudent Employers Should Create and Circulate Policy
Addressing Swine Flu Precautions

In an effort to better ensure the safety and health of employees, employers should promptly create and circulate a policy to address potential threats from the recent Swine Flu outbreak in the United States .  As you may know, yesterday the World Health Organization raised the worldwide pandemic alert level to Phase 5 which is a "strong signal that a pandemic is imminent. . . ."  The U.S. Government has declared a public health emergency in the United States and the Center for Disease Control is urging employers to do what they can to reduce transmission of this illness and has prepared guidelines that employers may distribute to their employees.

For comprehensive information on the potential for a pandemic, including continually updated information on the swine flu situation, we encourage you to refer regularly to the U.S. government's official pandemic website: http://www.pandemicflu.gov .
